Leo:
Many Americans get tied in knots about "culture" (our domestic civil war); many Chinese think in terms of (ecological) "civilization." To make decisions for the next seven generations, and for human civilization to flourish our very young, rambunctious country needs the long view of societies with much longer history to distill wisdom (3000 years in China, plus indigenous societies.)

"The first principle for understanding another culture or a different political viewpoint is to sincerely listen to their different viewpoint and not remain stuck in one's own limited view or simply believing one's own government-media propaganda... and in the US and UK and Canada there is now a ridiculous amount of media propaganda that demonizes China.
There is an interesting Spiritual polarity between 'individual creative freedom' and 'serving the collective good'.
Our global future will be build upon a synthesis of the eastern and western paradigms.
