When I was teaching at Stockholm University in 1984, I gave a special program for the Swedish Prison Wardens and Priests on Using Meditation for Rehabilitation ~ It Changes People Inside so When They Go Outside, They’re Different. ˆThey’re recidivism rate is about 20%, ours 80%.

Yesterday I had this unusual and concerning thought ‘What was motivating Disney to animate violence for children to watch over and over?’ This was evident in characters getting hurt and then bouncing back, whole, over and over. What could possibly make that alright? What was the thinking? And why has violence found its way into us and our societies without check - accepted and we adapted to it as if it was normal. But it isn’t. It isn’t normal at all. Violence is a short cut of the ego to dominate that which it fears.

We know the history and how horrible people and our planet HAVE been treated.
We are living NOW, and can create a new reality when we focus upon it. When we want virtues and values to be expressed by others, how do people learn these? DO our schools educate for quality character? Does our society have a 200 year old economic system creating good for all? What can replace it?
Research shows that when the least of us is uplifted/educated/healed, it VASTLY improves all others.
The Stoics had an expression: Acta non verba. Deeds not words.

Totally agree with Claire- I've had many very challenging experiences of trying to work with others on worthy community/ environmental causes, but everyone's unaddressed traumas got in the way. I had also had to pull back to work on myself and learn tools to help others shift too! have been feeling guilty for not being engaged in community efforts right now, but this is affirming.
