I agree George. I've been talking to my some of my family for years and it doesn't really change their minds (we still love each other - there's not a division there). That said, they are Fox News watchers. Better IMHO to focus on those on the fence or not voting up until now.

Focus too hard on what YOU think is necessary, and you become part of the problem, imho. We must be inclusive and welcoming while we hold to our values - sacrificing the value and respect of others is not a viable solution.

In my humble view, the primary underlying driver that closes the heart is fear—fear of differences (otherness), of intimacy (closeness), of the unknown (unfamiliar or new things), and of vulnerability (death or annihilation). When fear closes the heart, the tendency is to retreat into what appears to be “sameness” and to focus one’s consciousness on all the isms (racism, sexism, etc.), dogmas, ideologies. & power struggles to maintain what appears to be their sameness because “my group has the truth & your group does not”.

I'm working on this in a “relational organizing" way and have been fertilizing the "field”. I would greatly benefit from having a living room conversation structure for this conversation that I could share with people I'm talking with.
