A 2012 study led by French scientist Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini showed that low levels of glyphosate caused toxicity in rats, which led to personal and scientific attacks on Prof. Séralini,  organized by the agricultural industry. In 2015 the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate as ‘probably carcinogenic to humans’. Since then several independent studies have pointed to glyphosate causing damage to multiple organs including our livers and kidneys as well as the gut microbiome. The science behind the glyphosate controversy will be discussed by our panelists - two of the leading independent scientific experts on glyphosate from King’s College London and The Ramazzini Institute.

Moderators:

• Tom Eddington is an author, Executive Coach, Business Advisor, and Executive Producer of documentary films. He holds an M.S. in Organization Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. As a scholar of Conscious Leadership, he is passionate about bringing more conscious leadership into the world which he does through his coaching and advisory work, film and media projects and Board positions. As CEO of Endangered.global he brings his commitment and experience to impacting climate change and biodiversity loss.
• Henry Rowlands was brought up on a family run sheep farm in the Pembrokeshire National Park in Wales. His connection to both farming and the protection of the Welsh countryside led to a deep interest in issues related to sustainable agriculture from a young age. Following work as a news agency Journalist across Europe, Henry moved on to set up Sustainable Pulse, which is a popular online global media that focuses on sustainable agriculture and sustainable food. In 2015, Henry also set up The Detox Project, which provides Glyphosate Residue Free certification to show that food, supplement and beauty products do not contain the world’s most used weed-killer. The Glyphosate Residue Free certification market has reached over USD $500M in under 4 years. Alongside his work on toxics Henry’s work on regenerative agriculture has involved a concentration on the metrics required to enable global scaling. Henry is part of the Science Committee for the Soil Carbon Initiative and is also on the Sustainable Protein Design Team for the Manitoba Government in Canada.

Panelists:

• Dr. Michael Antoniou is a Reader in Molecular Genetics, and Head of the Gene Expression and Therapy Group, King’s College London. His research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms of gene regulation and development of gene expression systems for biotechnological applications. He also uses molecular profiling (“omics”) tools to investigate the endocrine disruptive capability of low, environmentally relevant doses of key pesticides and other chemical pollutants.
• Dr. Daniele Mandrioli, MD, is the Director of the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Center of the Ramazzini Institute, Bologna, Italy. He conducts research on environmental toxicants and carcinogens and Evidence Based Toxicology (EBT). Dr. Mandrioli's research on environmental toxicants and carcinogens includes the design and development of bioassays, investigations on the role of aneuploidy in carcinogenesis and reproductive toxicity, and the analysis of different chemical regulations and their implications for public health. Dr. Mandrioli is currently leading the most comprehensive study ever conducted on glyphosate - the Global Glyphosate Study.
