Foremost for me, having joined in 1994, is '''OBOD''' (Order of Bards Ovates and Druids - I helped instigate a 7 week course with them at the SHIFT after talking with Jim Garrison about them last Spring at Chartres. SHIFT cost almost §400 but well worth it, but Chartres cost a bundle too and the best thing my wife and I did all year, outside of seeing our kids)We've also been members of '''ESSWE''' (European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism I've gone off to their conferences for the last 12 year and my wife is on the board of directors -they needed a female and especially one who is an expert in Russian esotericism, language and culture. If not for her I probably wouldn't be invited since they are all PhD top scholars. The last one was at the end of June in Malmo, Sweden). There is a similar association in Russian which published one of my papers and I gave a talk for, called ASEM. '''CAS-E''' (Alternative Rationalities and Esoteric Practices from a Global Perspective), my wife goes off two or three days a week to Erlangen, Germany and just moderated a conference last week. Another conclave I get into by her top scholar graces, except the one session a week that's online for me with a special invite. There are plans to get these sessions on Youtube. I also followed the meeting of '''The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists''' (they are the ones who lobbeyed and networked for 20 years to get the treaty signed by the UN to prohibit the production and proliferation of nuclear weapons, just signed a year or two ago. Countries can keep their stockpiles now, but should reduce them in the future and not make any more. Quite a grass roots achievement! You can check them out online. Then there is '''CCI'''(Center for Citizen Initiatives) with similar goals for peace, first with Russia now with China. AAAS - American Association for the Advancement of Science, '''OCHA''' - UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. CAS-E, OBOD, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Center for Citizen Initiatives, AAAS - American Association for the Advancement of Science, OCHA - UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Then there is Prof. Jeffrey Kripal, who got us into this in some way, when we met up in Freiburg for dinner and he invited us to ESALEN's 50 anniversary gathering at their place on the Big Sur. '''ESALEN''' is the granddaddy of this near-age, started in the 1960s. Judy Collins used to stay there during winters with her big dogs to run off the Hell's Angels who would invade the place to use the natural hot tubs. Jim Garrison and Jim Hickman started out there before they left to create the '''Ubiquity University''' I was talking about. Many of the guests Jim gets for Humanity Rising taught there and are world class humanitarian scholars, ranging from Fritz Perl, Stan Grof, Erik Davis, Fritjof Capra, Joseph Campbell, Anna Halprin (we did a week of dance with her) and tons more. | |||
But I have other activities that take up my time. As I wrote to you, I had a deadline for a book review due on 18 December, which I haven't finished. I am still trying to finalize my mother's will, but that should be done by the end of the year. THEN I will concentrate on what I can offer Humanity Rising and read through the Trello and put together a picture of what I can do, who I can connect, try to get you and Jim on ''Democracy Now'' and I help my wife with the English of her '''New Age in Russia''' online site. I have my own projects too. Kurt asked me to make up a list of relevant films and and I want to do a list of music too. Music is life. | |||
