Day 743 Tue 7/18/23 Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity: the Rocky Road to Democracy
- --- Humanity Rising Day 743 - Tuesday July 18, 2023 (GoTo Bottom)

The origins of Russo-Ukrainian war date back to February 2014, to the outcomes of the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity. But what actually happened back then at Maidan? All speakers that spoke at the Ubiquity Summit on Ukraine so far call it “a coup” instigated by the US, and it perfectly matches with the key narratives of the Russian propaganda justifying further annexation of Crimea and beginning of military intervention in Donbass. During the session on July 18th, moderated by Auke Van Nimwegen, you’ll have a chance to hear and address your questions to a Ukrainian, the true witness and researcher of Maidan events, whose book Ukraine’s Maidan, Russia’s War: A Chronicle and Analysis of the Revolution of Dignity was published by Ibidem Verlag in 2019, and is distributed by Columbia University Press.
Presenters:
- Mychailo Wynnyckyj (Ukraine) is an Associate Professor in the Sociology Department at the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” Sociology Dep’t and Adjunct Professor of the Lviv Business School at Ukrainian Catholic University. Wynnyckyj was awarded a PhD in Economic Sociology in 2004 from the University of Cambridge (U.K.). During the Revolution of Dignity, Wynnyckyj was a regular commentator for English-language media outlets, and provided analysis on current events in his "Thoughts from Kyiv" blog. Originally from Canada, he has lived permanently in Kyiv with his wife and four children since 2003.
- Auke van Nimwegen (Netherlands) grew up in Netherlands, lived in the US, Australia and in the 1980’s in Poland.
