Bill s a contributing writer to The New Yorker, and a founder of Third Act, which organizes people over the age of 60 to work on climate and racial justice. He founded the first global grassroots climate campaign, 350.org, He serves as the Schumann Distinguished Professor in Residence at Middlebury College in Vermont. In 2014 he was awarded the Right Livelihood Prize, sometimes called the ‘alternative Nobel,’ in the Swedish Parliament. He's also won the Gandhi Peace Award, and honorary degrees from 19 colleges and universities. He has written over a dozen books about the environment, including his first, ''The End of Nature,'' published in 1989, and the forthcoming ''The Flag, the Cross, and the Station Wagon: A Graying American Looks Back at his Suburban Boyhood and Wonders What the Hell Happened.'' Third Act is people over the age of 60 — “experienced Americans” — determined to change the world for the better. We muster political and economic power to move Washington and Wall Street in the name of a fairer, more sustainable society and planet. We back up the great work of younger people, and we make good trouble of our own. People over 60 constitute the fastest-growing part of the population: 10,000 people a day pass the 60-year mark. That means that there’s no way to make the changes that must be made to protect our planet and our society unless we bring the power of this group into play.

* '''[[Laura Weisel]],''' Force Multiplier Co-Chair. Laura joined Force Multiplier soon after it was created, and shortly before she retired from a 27-year career as a senior administrator at Harvard Medical School. Laura's previous work included stints at Oxfam America and WNYC. Laura had intended to spend her retirement advocating for universal national service, but Donald Trump foiled her plans. As the Co-Chair of the Force Multiplier Fundraising Committee, Laura spends a lot of time raising money and developing partnerships with like-minded organizations. Laura is a graduate of Williams College and the Yale School of Management. She lives in Brookline MA with her partner Neil and Charlie, their feisty mutt. Laura's older son Jared is a regenerative farmer in Bergen County NJ and her younger son Noah is the campaign manager for a Democrat running for Congress in IL 17.

* '''[[Tom Hallock]],''' Force Multiplier Co-Chair and a member of FM's founding group. Tom had a long career in book publishing, the last 22 years of it as Associate Publisher at Beacon Press where he worked on books by Rev. William Barber, Howard Zinn, Mary Oliver, Thich Nhat Hanh and many other prophetic writer-activists. (Bill McKibben annotated and provided an introduction for the Beacon Press edition of Walden while Tom was there.) Tom went to Brown in the '60s and later taught in Beijing for two years. He recommitted to political activism after the 2000 election of George Bush. He has since been exploring ways to have an impact as a citizen–especially as a white person from a blue state. He lives with his wife Beth in Brookline MA and has two stepdaughters, both of whom got engaged during the pandemic.

* '''[[Force Multiplier]]''' is an all-volunteer grassroots political fundraising organization that raises funds for Democratic candidates for federal office and for groups that defend and expand the right to vote; this work empowers people and multiplies their impact on democratic institutions and the electoral process. Force Multiplier began in late 2017 with 12 people in a living room in suburban Boston. Today it is a national community of over 9000 people who have donated almost $10M to Democratic House and Senate candidates as well as grassroots, pro-democracy voter empowerment groups. Force Multiplier uses relational networking... friends talking to friends.. to raise money. At least twice a month, Force Multiplier hosts Zoom fundraising events with candidates, voter empowerment groups leaders, and celebrity surrogates like Jamie Raskin, Adam Schiff and Cory Booker.
